Main Research interests
Far-field noise radiated by turbulent jets; Indirection noise from gas turbine combustors. Both involve eddy-resolving numerical techniques for turbulent flow fields. Sound is either directly captured or acoustically modelled based on the obtained aerodynamic properties. Jets associated noise and combustion indirect noise are keys to the success of the next generation gas turbine engines given the ever more stringent regulatory requirements, e.g. FlightPath 2050. The latest research will try to provide fundamental understanding of the underlying flow and acoustic physics and to seek possible solutions for design optimisation.
